Monster Island

a.k.a. Jules Verne's Mystery on Monster Island
Spain, 1981
Monster Island
Starring Terence Stamp, Peter Cushing.
Directed by Juan Piquer Simón.

A young man, along with his annoying tutor, is shipwrecked on an island brimming with cannibals, monkeys, dinosaurs and giant caterpillars. Based on the Verne novel Mysterious Island only in that it features an island, this cheap Spanish movie is given the semblance of class by Cushing and Stamp, though Stamp's distinctive voice ruins one of the two twists at the end of the film. Cushing and Stamp's efforts are completely undone by David Hatton horribly unfunny performance as the highly strung tutor. Perhaps inspired by the hand puppet monsters, Hatton seems to be trying to be a Muppet himself.

Sea Serpent, The

a.k.a. Hydra - Monster of the Deep
Spain, 1984
Sea Serpent, The
Starring Timothy Bottoms, Taryn Power, Jared Martin, Ray Milland.
Directed by Amando de Ossorio.

After an accident drops an atomic bomb into the ocean a mutated, bug-eyed sea serpent attacks a ship. No one believes the captain of the ship (Bottoms), but he vows to destroy the monster at all costs. He enlists the help of a scientist played by Ray Milland, in what would be his final theatrical feature. Let this be a cautionary tale to all actors. You don't want your last movie to be something like this.

The monster is usually portrayed with a hand puppet, but the producers built a giant prop head as well, which gets to eat various European actors pretending to be Americans.

Arachnid

Spain, 2001
Arachnid
Starring Chris Potter, Alex Reid, José Sancho.
Directed by Jack Sholder.

In the opening scene of Arachnid we see an invisible flying saucer abducting sea life  from the Pacific Ocean. A stealth fighter accidentally strikes the saucer, and both craft crash on a small island. The human pilot investigates the still partially invisible saucer and finds an alien pilot – and then they’re both killed by a giant spider that jumps out of the jungle. Was the spider an escapee from the alien saucer? Another alien? Is it all just a coincidence? All these questions and more won’t be answered during the course of Arachnid. Instead a bunch of sci-fi/horror movie stereotypes arrive on the island looking for the stealth pilot, and the spider kills them one by one.
