Buffalo-sized guinea pig!
Scientists in Venezuela have discovered the "remarkably complete skeleton" of the world's largest-ever rodent: Phoberomys pattersoni, an evolutionary cousin to the modern guinea pig. It was 3 meters long and, when it lived eight million years ago, would have weighed about 1500 pounds (700kg). More on this discovery in The New Scientist.
