1916: WILLIAM ALLAND, who produced "Tarantula" and "The Deadly Mantis", is born in Delmar, Del. The producer of many Universal B-movies played reporter Thompson in "Citizen Kane".

1946: HIROKO SAKURAI, who played Akiko Fuji on "Ultraman", is born Hiroko Furuya in Tokyo. She also played Yuriko Edogawa on "Ultra Q" and the woman trying to take a photo in "Ultraman Zearth", was on "Ultraman 80" and "Ultraman: Monster Big Battle", and appeared on Episode 12 of "Ultraseven".

1951: LINDA YAMAMOTO, who played Mari on "Kamen Rider", is born in Fukuoka.

1955: SHIRO SANO, who played CCI scientist Shiro Mayazaki in "Godzilla 2000" and Yuri’s boss Haruki Kadokura in "Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack", is born in Shimane, Japan. He also appeared in "To Sleep So As To Dream", "Lady Battle Cop", "Waga aishita Ultraseven", "Master of Gensenkan", "Every Day is Sunday", "Sharaku", "Cat's Eye", and “Princess Blade”, and directed the film "Karaoke".

1972: Episode 49 of "Kamen Rider", "Man-Eating Demon Isoginchak", debuts on Japanese TV.

1916: ICHIRO ARASHIMA, who played Mr. Tako of Pacific Pharmaceuticals in "King Kong vs. Godzilla", is born Tadao Oshima in Nagoya. The comedic actor was also in "The Three Treasures" and played Senin, the lusty, incompetent wizard in "The Lost World of Sinbad". He also played Yuzo Kayama's father in the "Young Guy" films and frequently teamed with Frankie Sakai.

1924: CATHY DOWNS, who played Carol Forrest in "The Amazing Colossal Man", is born in Port Jefferson, N.Y. She also starred in "My Darling Clementine".

1929: HAJIME SATO, who directed "Terror Beneath the Sea", “Golden Bat”, and "Goke, Bodysnatcher from Hell", is born in Urawa, Saitama Prefecture, Japan. He also directed episodes of "Devil Boy".

1940: AKEMI KITA, who played the sneezing model in "Atragon", is born in Tokyo.

1941: HIROKAZU INOUE, who played Ono-no-Fusamori in “Princess from the Moon” and Detective Nakagawa in “Ju-on: The Grudge”, is born in Akita, Japan.

1952: KAZUKI OMORI is born in Osaka. He wrote and directed "Godzilla vs. Biollante" and "Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah" and wrote the screenplays for "Godzilla vs. Mothra" and "Godzilla vs. Destoroyah". He had previously done the films "Sukapin Walk", "You Gotta Chance", "Take It Easy", "Loving Girls", "Totto Channel", "Women of Sayonara", "Hippocrates", and "Afternoon When Flowers Fall".

1959: Professional wrestler MACH FUMIAKE, who played Kilara in " Gamera: Super Monster", is born.

1965: "The Lost World of Sinbad" is released in the U.S.

1968: Episode 22 of "Ultra Seven", "The Human Ranch" (a.k.a. "The Chromosome Eaters"), debuts on Japanese TV.

1886: WILLIS O'BRIEN, who did the stop-motion special effects for "The Lost World", "King Kong", "Son of Kong", "Mighty Joe Young", "The Black Scorpion", and "The Giant Behemoth", is born in Oakland, Calif. He also wrote the story "King Kong vs. Prometheus" which became the basis for "King Kong vs. Godzilla". He began his career on the short silent films "The Dinosaur and the Missing Link", "R.F.D. 10,000 B.C.", "Prehistoric Poultry", and "The Ghost of Slumber Mountain", and finished his career with "It’s a Mad Mad Mad Mad World".

1921: KENJI MISUMI, who directed "Return of Daimajin", is born in Kyoto. He also directed "Buddha" and numerous "Zatoichi" and "Lone Wolf and Cub" films.

1931: YU FUJIKI is born in Tokyo. Frequently paired with Tadao Takashima, he was in "The Three Treasures", Kinsaburo Furue in "King Kong vs. Godzilla", Yoshito Nishibe in "Atragon", egg-loving reporter Jiro Nakamura in "Godzilla vs. the Thing", and the promotion division manager in "Yog — Monster from Space". His more dramatic films include "Farewell Rabaul", "Samurai II: Duel at Ichijoji Temple", "The Lower Depths", "When a Woman Ascends the Stairs", and "Early Autumn", and he appeared in "Las Vegas Free-for-All" and other Crazy Cats comedies.

1933: "King Kong" premieres in New York City.

1973: Episode 22 of "Warrior of Love Rainbowman", "Rescue One Hundred Million People!!", debuts on Japanese TV.

1974: Episode 3 of "Kamen Rider X", "Assassination — Poison Spider Tactics", debuts on Japanese TV.
Episode 42 of "Kikaida 01", "Comrade Attack — the Flame Throwing Shadow-Figure Gun", debuts on Japanese TV.

1892: RYUNOSUKE AKUTAGAWA, who wrote the serial which was the basis for "Portrait of Hell", is born in Tokyo. He also wrote the story which was the basis for "Rashomon".

1909: MOGENS BRANDT, who played Police Chief Hassing in "Reptilicus", is born in Copenhagen.

1928: HYOEI ENOKI, who was in "The Last Dinosaur", is born in Mie Prefecture, Japan.

1933: YOKO MINAMIDA, who played the grandmother in "House", is born in Tokyo.

1948: VERNON L. WALKER, who was a cinematographer on "King Kong", dies in Los Angeles.

1954: In an incident that helped inspire the original "Gojira", the trawler SS Lucky Dragon #5 gets too close to nuclear test at Bikini Atoll. Many of the crew would die of radiation poisoning.

1962: ROSCOE ATES, who played a photographer in "King Kong", dies of lung cancer in Hollywood, Calif.

1968: HARUKO SAGARA, who played a TV reporter in "Godzilla vs. Biollante", is born in Koriyama, Fukushima, Japan.

1975: Episode 20 of "Kamen Rider Amazon", "Mole Beastman — Last Activity" debuts on Japanese TV.

2001: A rememberance ceremony is held for Jun Fukuda. Koichi Kawakita, Teruyoshi Nakano, Fumio Tanaka, Yuriko Hoshi, and Yasuhiko Saijyo are among the attendees.

2004: "Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S." is screened at the American Film Market Trade Show in Santa Monica, Calif.

1930: HIDEAKI NITANI, who starred in the TV series "Mighty Jack", is born in Tokyo. He played the hospital official in "Frankenstein Conquers the World" and project leader Dr. Nakata in "Tidal Wave".

1934: POUL NYRUP, who did the sound on “Reptilicus”, is born in Copenhagen.

1973: CECIL KELLAWAY, who played Professor Thurgood Elson in "The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms", dies of arteriosclerosis in Hollywood, Calif.

1976: Episode 41 of "Secret Task Force Goranger" debuts on Japanese TV.

1978: REI KIKUKAWA, who played U.N. molecular biologist Miyuki Otonashi in “Godzilla: Final Wars”, is born.

1927: HITOSHI UEKI of the Crazy Cats comedy team, who starred in "Don’t Call Me a Con Man" is born in Mie, Japan. His film credits include "The Age of Irresponsibility", "Las Vegas Free-for-All", "The Crazy Family", "Ran", and "Memories of You".

1936: YOSUKE NATSUKI, who replaced Akihiko Hirata as Dr. Hayashida in "Godzilla 1985", is born in Tokyo. His other roles include a man in "The H-Man", Inspector Konmei in "Dogora the Space Monster", Detective Shindo in "Ghidrah - the Three-Headed Monster", and Zataki in the TV miniseries "Shogun".
