1885: AKIRA TANI, who played a chubby thug in "Half-Human: The Story of the Abominable Snowman" and the village headman in "Godzilla vs. the Thing", is born in Fukuoka. Also appearing in "Madame White Snake" and "The Three Treasures", he died in 1966.

1931: SHIRO MORITANI, who directed "Tidal Wave", is born in Tokyo. He also was an assistant director for Akira Kurosawa.

1959: YU TOKUI, who played Ota the real estate agent in "Dark Water", is born in Osaka.

1968: NAOMI WATTS, who played Rachel Keller in "The Ring" and "The Ring 2", and
will play Ann Darrow in the 2005 remake of "King Kong", is born in Shoreham, Kent, England. Her other films include "Mulholland Drive", "Ned Kelly", "Le Divorce", and "21 Grams".

1970: "Ultra Fight", a series of vignettes from "Ultraman" and "Ultra Seven", premieres on Japanese TV.

1947: RAY BRADBURY, whose story "The Foghorn" was the basis for "The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms", marries his wife, Maggie.

1951: REN OSUGI, who played Sayori's father Yasutaka Hiura in "Shikoku" and Kyoto Kuroda in "Zebraman", is born in Tokushima, Japan.

1952: R.J. KIZER, who directed the U.S. scenes for "Godzilla 1985", is born in New Jersey. He was also the skydiving contest narrator and supervised the sound for "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie".

1956: LINDA HAMILTON, who played Amy Franklin in "King Kong Lives", is born in Salisbury, Maryland. She is best known as Sarah Connor in "The Terminator" and "Terminator 2: Judgement Day" and for the TV series "Beauty and the Beast".

1963: NATE D. SLOTT, second assistant director on "The Amazing Colossal Man", dies at 61.

1966: Episode 13 of "The Space Giants", "The Last Inhabitant" (a.k.a. "The Super Heat Creature"), debuts on Japanese TV.
